News Fast

I don't know about you, but the amount of noise surrounding the presidential campaign, the financial crisis, global warming, etc. , etc. is becoming deafening. I've noticed that I've become almost addicted to news - finding out what else is going wrong, what this person said about that person, and so forth. You find yourself spending amazing amounts of time tracking news.

If you think about it, we are inundated with news. Our ancestors over one hundred years ago got perhaps a hundredth, perhaps a thousandth amount of news that we do today. Does all this news improve our lives? Does our quality of life improve because we know that there are riots in South Africa because the president has resigned?

In an effort to turn the noise down in my life, I'm attempting to go on a news fast. I don't think I need to know all of this stuff. I'm going to see what it's like to wean myself of the need to know what is going on all the time.

I'm not the first to invent this - but I'm going to give it a try and see what happens.

Cheers.
